Who is DJ Prince?

DJ Prince is a leading Norwegian DJ and producer. He has had a long career reaching milestones like becoming Norways best club DJ 2009, a top 3 hit singel on Billboard dance chart and contributing in several books and articles about harmonic mixing. His mashups and mixes are categorized as some of the finest around and his DJ technique and style is highly rated among fellow DJs.

Early days

He got his name from his grandmother who called him "her little prince" when he was a baby, Since then family and friends has called him Prince. The DJ also known as Vikram Rai was born in New Delhi, India, but he has been raised in Stavanger, Norway. DJ Prince was enlightened in 1986 by DJ Cheese (world record mixing champion of '1986) live performance in Stavanger. DJ Prince has participated in the DMC Norwegian mixing championship finals in "1989, 1990" and in 2009 he won the national Pepsi Max /NRJ DJ Battle, beating Norway's finest club DJs.

DJ Prince is a freelance DJ in the weekends, and during office hours he works as a senior system consultant/advisor at Bouvet. Working primary with Microsoft SharePoint technology.

A passion for musical excellence

DJ Prince is a very busy man indeed, besides DJ'ing, daytime job, webmaster for www.djprince.no and active personal life he is also involved in various musical projects, either as a producer or as a remixer. He has with collaborating parties had several top dance hits in Scandinavia, Europe, Japan and USA. His music has received good reviews both in MixMag and Muzik magazine. Currently working on his album with various musicians and producers.

Billboard dancechart

The Summer of 2000 he released the whitelabel titled "Mixmad - Got to have" with "partner in crime" Justin K. This record was an instant smash and huge success all over the world. After the sample (Felix-Don't you want my love) was cleared the record got an official release on "Klubbheads" Mobizz records in 2001. "Got to have" is featured on over 30 compilations around the world, from South Africa to Japan. In USA it went to number 3 on the Billboard dance chart and in Norway it stayed at no 1 for 3 weeks on the Norwegian dance chart. It was also featured in the poplular american tv series called "Queer as folk".

The importance of good company

He has been DJing in Mallorca from 1992 through 1995 and also been traveling all around Norway playing at the biggest clubs and events. In 2001 he signed up with Klubbheads label Mobizz. DJ Prince has been featured many times in magazines, newspaper and national TV. His mixes and mashups are often to be heard on various radio stations all over the world.
He has also contributed with his knowledge on harmonic mixing in the book "HOW TO DJ (PROPERLY)" by music journalists Bill Brewster and Frank Broughton. DJ Prince is also mentioned in the book "DJing for dummies. His website has been online since 1996 and his mixing tips and DJ Mix Generator database influenced many famous mashup artist around the world. The creator of the very popular DJ tool "Mixed in key" was also influced by his site.

Some of the artists DJ Prince has worked with and warmed up for are Bob Sinclair, Martin Solveig, Snoop Dogg, Dimitri From Paris, Klubbheads, DJ Jean, Anthony Pappa, Johan Gielen, 4 Strings, Signum, Darude, Mario Piccotto, Diesler + many many more.

Music style

DJ Prince does many different types of gigs, from lounge, bars to large international nightclubs, although he prefers to play at house events. DJ Prince has 2 residencies in Norway. Contra bar (Bergen) and 2325 lounge & Club (Stavanger). DJ Prince has also played at various festivals and special happenings. With his unique mixing skills, using harmonic mixing blended with some turntable trix, including scrathing and juggling he is truly a dj`s dj.
